Do you work with youth? Please join us at our Youth Summit

On Thursday, April 21st, The Drug-Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County will host a youth summit at the Holiday Inn City-Centre in Downtown Lafayette. Our speaker, Dr. Peter DeBenedittis, a specialist in media literacy, has insightful information to share regarding alcohol and alcohol advertising, especially as it relates to young people.

Because of your role as a leader in our community, we want to invite you to share as much of this day with us as your schedule will allow.

Listed below are a variety of opportunities that you can take advantage of.
  • Attend the summit for the entire day. From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., students will be motivated by learning about alcohol and advertising, informed of projects that can be implemented in their own environments that can change the way their peers think about drugs and alcohol, and challenged to leave the summit and make a difference. You are welcome to take advantage of the information and ideas shared with the students in attendance.
  • Attend only the mid-morning breakout session from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Dr. DeBenedittis will speak to adults about alcohol targeting and alcohol expectancies, brain science, and the sexualization and violence that is encouraged by alcohol advertising.
  • Serve as a discussion facilitator during lunch. From 11 to noon, students will share lunch and discuss alcohol and drug-related issues in their environments and how they can make a difference. Adult facilitators are needed for these discussions.
Those interested in sharing the day or serving as discussion facilitators should reserve their meals by contacting Kate Kerrigan, Program Coordinator, at kate@dftipp.org or 765-471-9916.
